You know a movie is truly good if you felt its emotion. You are moved in its climactic scenes and you are simply left in awe as the end credits started to roll. How did you feel the last time you watched a movie? When was the last time that a movie strongly affected your feelings?
For sure, you are one of the many people who easily gets affected by certain movies while some do not, because when people watch a movie they always identify one of the actors and this results to their emotions to change according to the events that the actor has to go through which is why people usually identify with the actors who always resemble them. It is some sort of self-reflection in the movie where you put yourself in the situation of the actor in the movie’s setting and situation which will surely affect you at some way especially when the movie is filled with drama, action or suspense.
Just like how Will Smith portrayed his role as a self-made businessman who went through a lot of ups and downs in the movie “Pursuit of Happiness” which earned him a lot of awards and eventually earned the movie its own reputation as one of the best tear-jerking movies of all time.
Because of the emotions, people feel, the movie is still considered as the best form of entertainment out there aside from sports, video games and other forms of entertainment.
Your subconscious mind cannot really differentiate the imaginary experience and the real-life situation because you usually believe or make yourself believe that you have gone through what the actor you have identified what they went through.
Which is why you might even be motivated after watching your favorite superhero saves the day simply because you made yourself to believe that the movie can happen in real life situation, not literally, but metaphorically.
So, why do some people get more affected compared to others by watching movies? You might even notice that some cry, including you, especially if the movie is too emotional and filled with drama. This is because it has a lot to do with being affected by a movie because people who are already emotionally sensitive can easily get affected because they might be reminded of the things that they experienced before which makes it very emotional to them especially when that situation is full of sadness, grief or fear.
However, people became emotional when watching movies not because of most of the sadness, grief, and fear, but also because of joy. Just like Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgi who were saved by the giant eagles in Mount Doom after they successfully destroyed the ring in the third part of The Lord of the Rings trilogy where everyone was so emotional because of the triumph of good versus evil, or you certainly cried when a severely malnourished and dehydrated Tom Hanks floating in the middle of the ocean with a makeshift raft found by a ship in the movie Castaway.
